What is a Hackathon?

The Hertz Hackathon is a 24-hour annual coding event where students compete to solve business challenges and identify innovative opportunities in the rental car industry.

Common Questions

How long does the Hackathon last?

The Hertz Hackathon typically lasts around 30 hours, with 24 hours of coding, plus registration and judging.

What should I bring?

You should bring a personal computer, comfortable clothes, toiletries, and a blanket and pillow if you want to sleep. Sleeping in your car is allowed.

Can anybody sign up?

Unfortunately the Hackathon is limited legally to participants 18 years of age or older on at the start of the Hackathon. Participants must be a student and not currently working in the rental car industry or employed full time as a developer/technologist.

Am I allowed to leave?

Participants are allowed to go to their cars or leave for short periods of time.

How big can each of the teams be?

Teams are limited to four people. If you do not have a team, we will help you find one on arrival.
